3.0.8 Changes

Wohoo, 3.08 is going to be really cool, new tanking weapons, buffs to Heart Strike; awesome. Wait nerf? What nerf? Details emerged today that rumors about possible nerfs in 3.08 were true indeed. For the last week or two, I’ve switched over to the 0/32/39 duel wield build. I’ve liked it a lot and its done really competitive against our hunters and druids; to the point where I was edging them out on low-mobility fights.

According to today’s information, some of nerfs in the upcoming patch are pointed directly at duel-wielders. Blizzard feels that because a lot of high-end raiders are choosing DW, that the build must be too popular and needs to be nerfed so that people will use 2-handers as intended.

Other nerfs in the build include a big nerf to the Gargoyle, which will not only affect Duel-wielders, but Unholy as well as some Blood builds. Here is what Ghostcrawler had to say about the DW nerfs:

It is on a proc per minute system, 1/2/3/4/5 at 5 ranks. It procs based on autoattack hits.

It will still benefit DW, but not nearly as much. The DW build was just outperforming 2H DKs (and the rest of the world).

Changes to our class include:

DPS

 - The gargoyle has had its base damage reduced by 25%, on top of that, the duration of the gargoyle has been chopped in half. This may make DRW builds more attractive to Blood DK’s.

 - Killing Machine has been changed from a percentage base, to a Proc Per Minute. Each point in Killing Machine will mean that the effect can happen that many times per minute (i.e. 5 points will mean that Killing Machine will proc 5 times a minute). Currently, it appears that the proc timer is weapon independent; we’ll see if it will stay that way. The reason behind this change is that Blizzard is trying to discourage people from using faster two-handers to improve the number of procs you get. This should affect Duel-Wield DK’s more than 2-Hand users.

 - Necrosis has received a buff. Its effect has been doubled. The max effect was increased from 10% to 20% extra shadow damage on auto attacks.

 - The maximum effect of virulence on your hit has been lowered from 3% to 1%.

Tanking

 - Blizzard has eliminated the proposed DK Tanking Two-handers.

 - The effect of Will of the Necropolis has been lowered from 10%\20%\30% to 5%\10%\15%.

 - Anti-Magic Zone has had its duration nerfed by 66%. It now lasts 10 seconds, down from 30 seconds.

Keep this in mind folks. It’s not THAT bad. I think a lot of these changes, at least the dps changes will bring Unholy, Blood, and Duel wield closer into sync with each other. I’m not going to scream foul until we get some hard numbers on how this will affect our dps. Take a deep breath, hold it, and let it back out slowly. As always, I would love to hear some opinions on this. Feel free to shoot me an email at questions@deathknighttactics.com.

I'm having some issues with my Internet Service Provider. There's some sort of problem out on the street; this is undoubtably causing problems with Death Knight Tactics.

It has come to my attention that we have these forum things on our interweb page. Doesn't look like they're being used all that much. Check out our forums, I'd love to hear about some of your DK experiences so far.

If you don't check them out, I'm going to hunt you down, find you, and beat you up like a sissy highschool bully.

The BETA Has Come To An End

November 5, 2008  by Xeeon

We would like to thank everyone who has participated in the Wrath of the Lich King beta test. We greatly appreciate all of the feedback and you have given us during this critical phase of World of Warcraft's development. In preparation for the launch of the game next Thursday, November 13, we will be bringing down our beta realms at 12:00 AM PST. Thanks again, and see you soon in Northrend!

It is a sad, yet happy day. We can officially report that the beta has come to an end. Xeeon the Dwarven Deathknight is now more. All is not lost however; he will be reborn later on next week. As you all know, the official release date of the expansion is next Thursday, November 13th. We all knew that the beta would eventually come to an end, so this was not unexpected.

Looking back on my beta experiences, it was fun to get to see the game before everyone else, but I didn’t play as much as I could have for two reasons. First, I didn’t want this content to be old news when the expansion was finally released. I didn’t want to feel like I was just doing it all over again. When I do run through it, I’d like to do it with my real life friends, and not just some dudes that I met on the interweb. Secondly, it’s hard for me to devote time to playing the beta when I really don’t get as much out of it because my account is destined to be reset anyways.

I had fun running around and seeing the new areas, and playing around with my talents, but I’ll be happier to see it when it’s real. Sadly, I’m not looking forward to leveling in Outlands yet again; nor the lolzdeathknights traffic in the DK starting area upon release.

The New Site Is Live

Welcome to Deathknight Tactics! I created this site to document my experiences in Wrath of the Lich King. I’m trying not to be just another person repurposing blizzard news like some other sites I’ve read. I hope that my rambling words will be entertaining.

The site is still a little sparse, so please excuse the dust.
